Selecting from my favourite poems for this book was like creating a flower arrangement, and I had to choose what flowers fitted best. The joy of a collection is that you can dip into it at any time and select any poem. I hope I have captured an entertaining bunch that people can enjoy, full of family and real things that people experience as part of their lives.'
This second collection of Kathleen Watkins' favourite poems is a labour of love that reflects life's light and shade. With something serious often sandwiched between lighter, uplifting pieces, the poems include 'Calling the Kettle' by Dennis O'Driscoll, 'Love After Love' by Derek Walcott and 'Farewell' by Thomas Moore. Dedicated to her late husband, Gay Byrne, it contains three pieces written for Gay: 'The First' by Brendan Kennelly, 'Mortal' by Rita Ann Higgins and 'Clearing the Lane' by his Lyric FM producer Eithne Hand.
