My name is Andrew Jolly (B.Sc. Computer Science, H.Dip. in Arts in Primary Education), or Mr. Jolly. I am a primary school teacher specializing in Special Education. Beyond the classroom, I run Barleycove Surf Camp, Swell Surf School, and a mental health company, Happy Habits. Psychological and physical health are at the core of everything I do.
As both a parent (including to a child with ASD) and educator, I see firsthand the rising stress levels in today’s world, and I am extremely passionate about providing children with coping skills for a happier, more fulfilling, balanced, and meaningful life.
The Good Mood Dude is Curriculum-based (SPHE) and distills positive psychology practices into simple, actionable habits. It presents 10 simple, science-backed Happy Habits. These practical tools help children build resilience, self-awareness, and emotional intelligence while empowering them to take charge of their own well-being. While we can’t control the world around us, we can control our inner world, and research shows that small, intentional habits can profoundly improve mental well-being.
Written in the first person with memorable mantras, this book models positive self-talk, this book is designed to spark an important mental health conversation. They will be gently introduced to the lexicon of mental health terms while being encouraged to reframe negative emotions, to think flexibly, to improve mood, and to cultivate a more positive, resilient mindset.
