As his career progressed, Harry Ferguson demonstrated all the qualities of a gifted innovator. He developed resilience, self-belief and single-mindedness, and was visionary and obsessive. Born without privilege and despite encountering almost insufferable obstacles, Ferguson ultimately achieved staggering commerical success with his tractors and farm implements. Although accomplished as an inventor, his suite of skills went way beyond that. He was also a gifted salesman, marketeer and communicator, and developed a unique business model, all of which contributed to his success.
The research for this book involved a deep deleve into all phases of Ferguson's early life, culminating in the development of the Ferguson system, which first appeared in the Black Tractor and was ultimately incorporated inot 80% of all tractor manufactured in the world since 1935.
The book contains much previously unpublished written and photographic material, relating to the evolution of the Black and Ferguson Brown tractors. It also presents new material, perspectives and insights on the commerical gifts, personality traits, family life and environment that shaped Ferguson's career and overall vision. This new material fully supports the conclusion that Harry Ferguson was one of the greatest innovators in agriculture that the world has ever known.
