Educational Value

Tina was inspired by facts when writing this book. All children love learning about animals, their habitats and their features. This book introduces the young reader to the honeypot ant. Honeypot ants live in dry climates around the world. The have unique survival skills and an instinct to save in spring when food is abundant. Through her character of Arid the Honeypot Ant, Tina wishes to introduce children to the concept of saving. She highlights the importance of looking beyond the ‘now’ and one’s own ‘self’. Means and resources in life are limited. Tina’s book illustrates how the honeypot ant copes.

About the Author

Tina Fitzgerald worked in financial services until the arrival of her second child in June 2019. She has been looking after her two young children full-time whilst pursuing professional qualifications in financial planning and wealth management. Tina completed the Qualified Financial Adviser exams and commenced a Graduate Diploma in Financial Planning at The Institute of Bankers in Ireland at a time when her children started to show an interest ion picture books. Her experience combined with her love of reading aloud for her children inspired her tom create this beautifully illustrated book.  The illustrators are Bruna Gala & Anniella Ragaza.


Arid the Honeypot Ant is Tina’s first children’s picture book.
