This book will appeal to those who have an interest in the contribution made by a community to build this fine Church during the bleak years of the famine along with the generations of people who have gathered and prayed in this sacred place where we share our faith our joys and our sorrows it is where we gather for family christenings, first holy communions, confirmations, marriages and funerals. It details the unique history of this significant building in the lives of Ennis people over the last 170 years.
The book cover is an illustration by local artist Hilary Gilmore of the Cathedral with Dean Terence O’ Shaughnessy wearing the uniform of a National Guardsman for disguise, he attended the execution of Louis XV1. He described this event as “the king’s foul murder” and it had a deep effect on him.
