Description

Author: Brian Dinan

Clare and the its People tells the County Clare story in an easy-to-read style. The book is enhanced with 60 illustrations on subjects ranging from the Stone Age to electric generating stations. It is probably the most comprehensive publication on Clare's history currently available in a single package. The influences of Stone Age pioneers, Bronze Age wizards, Celts of iron and mystery, Norman-English invaders, and ferocious wars fought by the O'Briens of Thomond all come alive in the narrative. With four appendices telling of mythical heroes, famous personalities and Gaelic games it makes for a great introduction to the county's history. It is rounded off with a broad bibliography and a useful index to the main narrative. There is also a comprehensive list of Clare's original Gaelic family surnames. The author has a Diploma in Local Studies from UCC.
