This is the second publication by the Killimer Local History Group which aims to create a permanent record of Killimer parish and its people. It is continuation of Book 1, Living on theWild Atlantic Way, which dealt with the history of our parish.
During the research for our first book, we gathered a large number of photographs and other stories of evidence about the history of Killimer which we could not fit into our first publication due to the enormity of the content. This second publication allows us to share these photographs with everyone who has in interest in our parish and to ensure that this collection of material is not lost to posterity.
These photographs represent centuries of history and memories in the life of our parish. They span between 6-8 generations, covering dates from the 1800s up to the present day. We hope these photographs will remind you of people, places and activites in the past. They are like a time tunnel into the past, allowing us to out names to faces and faces to names; they remind us of the styles of dress, housing and transport in the past, and illustrate how many ways of work and play have changed over time. We hope they will jog your memory and enable you to reflect on the people and events of times gone by.
