Description

Tom Sheedy was born on a farm in rural Co. Limerick but, without ever leaving the land, by the time he grew up he lived in the city. The rapid expansion of Limerick city is recounted in a story that recalls all the fun and frolics of growing up in the 1950s on a farm where long hours and hard work were mainstays.

The expanding city suburbs were embraced by the Limerick farming community, but they were also determind that their culture and traditions would also be maintained as the sod which yielded a harvest for centuries was turned one last time for the housing developements.

Tom Sheedy helped maintain those traditions in his working life with Shannon Development Co, and in particular Bunratty Castle and Folk Park, and now he recalls them in superb detail of what life was like growing up on The Last Farm in Garryowen.
